Maintaining your Home Appliances

We purchase different home appliances which we need and we also like to flaunt it to others. However, there are times that we feel lazy to clean our appliances and having a hard time maintaining some of it. If not properly maintained, our appliances could be damaged, look old or even cause accident. To make sure that your home appliances are in good condition and can last for a lifetime, you need to know the simple tips to maintain your appliances.

We have different appliances at home and the most common ones are microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, kitchen range or stove, and washing machine or dryer. And they are cleaned in different ways since they have different function. Some appliances are sensitive and difficult to clean while some are easy to clean and maintain.

Cleaning Tips

1. Refrigerators
   • unplug it first
   • take everything out of the fridge and place it on the table
   • now, start cleaning the racks and shelves
   • you can also remove the racks and clean it with soap and water
   • wipe your fridge inside and out with sponge or soft cloth, vinegar and water, or baking soda and water solution, and then rinse it well.
   • Use baking soda to keep out old smells
2. Washer or dryer
   • Clean the outside of the washer or dryer using soap and water.
3. Microwave
   • Get a microwave-safe bowl, fill it with half full water and add a tablespoon of white vinegar.
   • Place inside the microwave and turn it on for 5 minutes
   • Remove the container and use a clean towel or paper towel to wipe down the inside of the oven.
   • Remove glass tray and wash it like a dish.
4. Dishwasher
   • Use it regularly so that you do not have to clean it all the time.
   • Check inside it once a week and ensure that there is no debris or dirt.
   • Use a cloth to clean the outer surface and the edges
5. TV/Computer
   • Unplug it first the use soft cloth to clean the surface.
6. Kitchen range/stove
   • Use baking soda and water and wipe it with damp cloth

Generally, appliances must be cleaned at least once a week to make sure that they will work well. And you must check their plugs and call a skilled repairman if the appliance needs to be repaired. Assign time to clean your home appliances so that they will last long and you won’t have to repeatedly buy new appliances.
